There were outstanding performances from local students who represented Essex at the regional final for the pentathlon (hurdles, shot, long jump, high jump and 800 metres) in Northampton.
For the boys, Joshua Olawore (Belhus Chase, Grays), Blair Cartwright (Southend High School for Boys), Tom Watts and Paul McCluskey (both Cecil Jones College) all achieved personal best scores on the day.
The Essex squad were the winners on the day and are now celebrating have qualified for the national finals in September at Bedford.
Cartwright (hurdles) Olawore (triple Jump) and McCluskey (pole vault) are all representing Essex again this weekend at the English Schools Championships in Sheffield.
Also in action there will be Southend High for Girls student Poppy Lake who, along with school colleague Sophie Jarvis, was in action at Northampton.
At the multi-events, high jump specialist Poppy had the following performances: Hurdles - 12.8 secs; High jump - 1.52 metres; Shot - 7.73; Long jump - 4.76; 800 - 3.03. Sophie’s performances were: Hurdles - 12.9; High jump - 1.49; Shot - 6.56. Long jump - 4.37; 800 - 2.35.
