Essex cricket league fourth XI: Orsett win by 137 runs


Premier Division: Orsett hosted Harold Wood at School Lane and comfortably won by 137 runs.

The hosts were put in to bat and posted 283-6 declared off 48.4 overs, with Lewis Smith (87no), Robert Pavitt (41) and Ian Lockyer (35) getting among the runs as Matthew Hyam took 2-45 and Ross Ellis 2-57.

Chris Clarke (33) and Darren Browne (32) provided most resistance, but Joel Rech (4-32) John Morris (3026) and Lockyer (3-18) restricted Harold Wood to 146 all out for 44.2 overs.

Basildon & Pitsea could not raise a side for their trip to Ardleigh Green, which meant their hosts picked up a 20-point win by default.

Other result: South Woodford (249-7) drew with Fives & Heronians (108-7), Hainault & Clayhall (102-6) by Hutton (101) by 4 wickets, Hornchurch (226-9 dec) bt Upminster V (125) by 101 runs.

Division One: Hadleigh & Thundersley won by eight wickets away to Benfleet in the Castle Point derby.

Benfleet opted to bat and posted 122 all out from 27.2 overs, with John Bull (30) and Luke Wilson (29) leading the way.

Liam Saxton (5-20) provided the biggest threat with the ball, while Mike Lewis took 2-1.

Saxton capped a good all-round performance with an unbeaten 52 as Hadleigh replied with 123-2 in 20.1 overs, with Jon Newnham (31) and Geoff Davison (26) making valuable contributions.

Jamie Hodgson and Mark Acraman took the wickets to fall.

Billericay had a nine-wicket home win over Stanford le Hope at Blunts Wall Road. Stanford won the toss and opted to bat, but were all out for 82 off 35.2 overs. Billericay lost just one wicket in reply as they posted 83-1 off 22.5 overs.

Horndon on the Hill went down by six wickets at home to Ardleigh Green V at Corringham Rec.

Horndon were put into bat and posted 102 all out from 39.4 overs, with Terry Williams (20), Gary Ginsburgh (16) and Tom Tilby (13) providing most resistance to an Ardleigh Green attack that saw three bowlers take braces.

Bradley Mason (2-18), Tilby and Chanaka Karu took wickets but could not stop Ardleigh winning with 104-4 from 25.1 overs thanks to Kevin Chapman (27), Terry Dack (20) and Daniel Drury (19).

Southend on Sea could not raise a side for their visit to Waltham-stow, which meant their hosts picked up a 20-point win by default.

Other result: Brentwood (180) drew with Chingford (139-6).

Division Two: Leigh on Sea hosted Fives & Heronians and defeated them by 164 runs.

Mark Aggurs (50), John Monk (46), Ben Season (29) and Matt Brady (28) were Fives’ main tormentors as Leigh posted 235-6 declared off 51 overs, with Rohan Queshi claiming 3-36.

Chris Rotsey (13) and Chris Bidwell (11) were the obly Fives batsmen to make double figures as Jack Seal (4-21) and Taha Khan (3-7) helped restrict them to 71 all out off 14 overs.

Wickford had to settle for a draw away to Hornchurch V at the Met Police club in Chigwell.

Michael Green (70) and Steven Green (56) top-scored for the visitors as they posted 193-8 declared off 52 overs after being put in to bat. Hornchurch replied with 130-4 from 38 overs.

Other result: West Essex (206-3) bt Loughton (204) by 7 wickets, Upminster VI (299-5) bt South Woodford V (295-6) by 5 wickets, Gidea Park & Romford V (163-5) bt Wanstead (161) by 5 wickets.

division three east: Belhus travelled to Old Southendian & Southchurch and won by 22 runs at Shoebury Park.

Laurie Hawkes led the way for Belhus with 70 before they were bowled out for 155 off 39 overs. The Old Boys were dismissed for 133.

Leigh V hosted Chelmsford V at Belfairs Park but were beaten by 198 runs after deciding to field first.

Liam Keaney (82) and Liam Thrift (50) led the way as Chelms-ford posted 273-6 declared off 44 overs, with Alfie Barton taking 2-16 and four others single wickets.

Patrick Green (21) led the run chase but Ben Clifford (3-10), Ryan Dziadulewicz (3-5) and Abraham Kurian (2-10) helped restrict Leigh to 75 all out off 29 overs.

Orsett travelled to Stanford Rec and beat hosts Stanford le Hope by 134 runs in the Thurrock derby.

Matthew Whyman (51no) and Paul Boreham (48) starred for Or-sett as they reached 208-8 declared off 49 overs, with Geoff Gullett taking 4-49 and Jonathon Key 3-24.

But only Neil Doherty (17) and Matthew Hasler (12) reached double figures as Nathan Smith (4-15), Samuel Proctor (3-37) and George Gibbon (2-1) helped bowl Stanford out for 74 in 26.2 overs.

Division Three West: Wanstead VI (106-2) bt Harlow (104) by 8 wickets, Ilford (275-9 dec) bt Hornchurch VI (99) by 176 runs, Loughton V (184) bt Chingford V (177) by 7 runs.
