SOUTHEND Rugby Club’s Andrew Frost will be telling his newer team-mates all about the long standing rivalry with Westcombe Park before the two teams clash at Warners Bridge tomorrow.
The Seasiders have enjoyed many heated battles with the Kent club in the past few seasons.
And Frost, one of the club’s longest serving players, is desperate to win the latest showdown.
“I certainly enjoy playing against Westcombe Park and it’s a game I would love to win,” said the 25-year-old winger.
“We’ve been promoted and relegated with them so we’ve had loads of matches against them over the last few years and because of that there is now quite a rivalry between the teams.
“But our side has changed quite a lot since we were going for the league and I will certainly be telling the newer players just how important this game is.”
The clash sees Southend in action at home for the first time this season and they will be hoping that can help them return to winning ways.
The Seasiders were beaten 25-20 at Worthing on the opening day of the campaign before drawing at Shelford last weekend.
Frost kicked a dramatic late penalty to help Southend avoid defeat.
But he now wants to celebrating a victory.
“We are moving in the right direction and have been improving but we want a win now,” said Frost.
“We’ve taken three points from two away games which isn’t bad at this level but last weekend we made some silly mistakes and we came close to losing a game we should have won because of that.
“We certainly can’t afford to repeat those errors against Westcombe Park.”
This weekend’s visitors have won both of their matches so far this season against Henley and Worthing.
Southend welcome back scrum half Rhys Powell for the game and he will go straight back into the starting line-up.
Adam Ferrier has also been brought in at hooker, with Phil Bailey in the second row meaning Chris Waring switches to number eight.
