Alex Revell believes Southend United face tough test against Swindon Town

ALEX Revell believes Southend United are in for another testing afternoon against Swindon Town tomorrow.

Revell spent four months on loan with the high-flying Robins from the Shrimpers earlier on this season.

And the striker was very impressed by both the club’s players and manager Danny Wilson.

“The gaffer there is very focused on the next game and he’s very thorough in his preparations,” said Revell, who has now sealed another loan switch to Wycombe Wanderers.

“He goes through team shape several days before the match and he’s made some great signings for them.

“The centre-backs (Gordon Greer and Scott Cuthbert) have been awesome and he’s brought in some fine players from Scotland including Simon Ferry, a midfielder on loan from Celtic,” said Revell.

“They’re a big club and they’re flying at the moment. Charlie Austin and Billy Paynter are scoring every week so it will be difficult for Southend.

“But this run they’re on must come to an end soon and maybe that will be against Southend.”

Swindon are fifth in the table, while Southend are in 16th and Revell will be paying close attention to the game at Roots Hall.

But he will be more focused on making a successful start with Wycombe.

His move to the Chairboys has now gone through after a small delay.

And he is in contention to make his debut at Bristol Rovers tomorrow.

“I’m pleased to be at Wycombe and at having a chance to play, which is all I’ve wanted,” said Revell.

“I watched their game at the Southend last weekend and thought the lads played well. We’re in a difficult situation but we’re going to keep on fighting.

“My move was held up by FIFA because they have a rule which stops players playing for more than two clubs in the same season but the move has now done as an emergency loan and everything has gone through so I’m delighted.”

That means Revell’s time at Roots Hall has now come to an end and he has mixed memories of his two year spell with the Shrimpers.

“For me personally it ended in difficult circumstances and it was a mixed time,” he said.

“I didn’t reach the standards I set myself at the start of my time there but then I felt I got better, even though the goals didn’t come.

“I always gave my all and I made some great friends there.

“I just hope that when I go back that people remember me for the better times and not the way it ended.”
