FORMER Southend United youth team coach Marc Massey is back in the game with Bowers and Pitsea under 15s.
The vastly experienced chief, who has previously bossed the Bowers first team, is keen to recruit new players for next season’s campaign in the Eastern Junior Alliance league.
And he is confident of building a team that is capable of challenging for honours.
“It’s a tough level but with hard work and application I’m sure we can build a competitive squad,” said Massey.
“I believe players wishing to step up from Sunday league boys football should have the opportunity.
“What we will be looking to do long term is develop players into senior non-league.
“The process starts early for those serious about their football, otherwise they may never reach their full potential.”
Massey believes Bowers already have a decent youth section but the new owners are now keen to expand the thriving set-up further.
He wants to play a part in that happening and help teenagers make the most of their ability.
“We want to help these young lads to become players they might not be if they remain in park football,” said Massey.
“The people involved in Sunday boys football do a great job and it can be a thankless task — however some individuals may never fulfil their true potential.
“I would urge anyone who is serious about their footballing future to come and play for us at this level.”
Massey also has the experience of dealing with young players having previously worked in the youth set up at Southend United, along with current Blues boss Steve Tilson.
“I believe in strong coaching methods and have been involved is some excellent situations,” said Massey.
“I had a super few years working at these ages at Southend .
“Tilly was complementary about the work I did with young players at the time and we will be calling upon some other good coaches to assist us.
“George Young and Ian Barton both formerly of Southend will do some coaching for me and there are some others we will use who are good football people.”
Massey will be holding some trials and coaching sessions at the end of the season in mid-April.
