FOLLOWING Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Bath City, Thurrock saw their play-off hopes in Blue Square South suffer another blow tonight when they lost 2-1 at Ship Lane against fellow challengers Braintree Town.
In the Ryman Premier, Billericay Town, still basking in Saturday's 4-1 win at runaway leaders Dartford, gave their bid to beat the drop another major boost when they beat Hendon 1-0 at home.
Only goal came after 92 minutes and was scored by defender Chris Wild.
Canvey Island's hopes of moving closer to the play-off spots suffered a blow when they were held 1-1 by Hendon at the Brockwell Stadium in a bad-tempered affair.
Jason Hallett gave Gulls a 20th minute lead but Hendon, who had earlier seen a man sent off for throwing a punch, levelled in the second minute of injury-time following a disputed free-kick.
Aveley continued their climb up the table when they won 2-0 at relegation-threatened Waltham Abbey with goals coming from Ryan Doyle and Sherwin Stanley.
It was a bad night all round for Canvey Island teams with second-placed Ryman One North side Concord Rangers seeing their long unbeaten league run ended at Aveley when they lost 3-2 to Romford.
Steve King and Joao Carlos got the Concord goals.
In the Essex Senior League, Basildon United and Bowers and Pitsea fought out a predictable 2-2 draw in the new town derby at Gardiners Close.
Hullbridge Sports sparkled in a 3-0 home success over second-placed Sawbridgeworth, while Southend Manor lost 3-1 to Tiptree United at Maldon Town.
In the Essex Olympian League Premier Division, White Ensign and Rayleigh Town fought out a 1-1 derby draw at the Len Forge Centre in Eastwoodbury Lane.
Neil Grant gave Rayleigh the lead, but Ben Smith headed Ensign back on terms before half-time.
