CANVEY'S international schoolgirl Jessica Judd produced another scintillating run to earn TV stardom.
The Castle View student won the under-15 girls’ race by 19 seconds in a time of 14mins 52secs to again leave her rivals trailing in her wake at the UK Inter-Counties Cross-Country Championships in Birmingham.
It means that Judd, 15, who runs for Chelmsford AC, has achieved a clean sweep of local, regional and national cross-country titles she has competed for this season.
And the teenager is likely to add to her impressive list at next weekend’s English Schools’ Championships in Manchester.
More than 5,000 athletes competed in the competition, which was shown in full on SkySports TV.
It proved to be a great day for FitzWimarc School, Rayleigh, students with Sophie Riches finishing fourth in the race won by Judd in 15.31.
And, in the under-13 girls, two other Fitz students, Maisie Jones and Millie Smith, joined forces with Georgia Tuckfield and Lydia Hallam to claim first team prize for Essex for the first time in 33 years.
Jones, who runs for Basildon AC, was 21st in 11.42 and Smith just four seconds back in 23rd spot. Both Riches and Smith are Chelmsford AC members.
For the older age groups the event doubled up as a trial for the British team for the World Cross-Country Championships in Poland in two weeks time.
And a third place for Basildon born Faye Fullerton, who timed 27.30, seems certain to earn her a spot in the senior women’s team for the big event. Selections will be announced on Wednesday.
