ANGLERS will be combining their love of fishing with charity fundraising at Aquatels fishery later this month.

Carping for Cancer will be holding a charity 48-hour match at the Basildon lake between Friday, March 26, and Sunday, March 28.

The top prize is a fishing holiday to Gran Caneria in the Canary Islands and there are plenty of other rewards up for grabs.

Carping for Cancer held its first event last year at Broadlands and raised £2,000 for the Orchid male cancer charity.

This year the group is aiming to raise around £25,000 for the charity through its two-day matches.

The Aquatels match is the first one planned and there will be a second at Great Linford Lakes in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, in June.

“We are trying to raise in the region or £25,000 for the Orchid male cancer charity in our 2010 matches and with the numbers reaching 90 anglers over the two matches we are sure on the way to reaching our target,” said Mark Johnson from Carping for Cancer.

“We have had some good response from tackle company’s and other company’s donating prizes to help draw in fisherman to raise some money for this needy charity.

“A huge thank you to Tony (Prayel) at Aquatels for the use of his lake for the match.”

The match will start at midday on the Friday and will continue until the same time on the Sunday, with prizes being presented at 12.30pm.
