Carlisle United boss Greg Abbott shocked by Southend United's struggles

CARLISLE United manager Greg Abbott is shocked to see the Shrimpers fighting against relegation.

Abbott's side, who face Southampton at Wembley this Sunday in the final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, threw away a two goal advantage at Roots Hall yesterday.

But Abbott was still pleased to pick up a point.

“We got a draw and we haven't lost so you could say it was job done,” said Abbott.

“It was disappointing to lose a two goal lead but Southend are a good, physical side with some quality players and I'm staggered there are in the situation they are.”

Southend were also not helped by the second half dismissal of skipper Adam Barrett.

And Abbott felt it was a harsh decision.

“It looked a bit soft to me,” said the Cumbrians chief.

“I'm disappointed for Southend because I think he's one of the best defenders in the league and they need him.”
