Horsham 0, Billericay Town 2

BRIAN Statham’s men moved five points clear of the drop zone as they added to the woes of their Sussex hosts whose play-off hopes are in tatters after losing six of their last seven games.

Billericay dominated from the start and Danny Green fired over in the first minute.

Josh Pelling saved from Danny Charge and the recently-signed striker also headed narrowly wide before Dave Wareham was denied by keeper Pelling.

At this stage the visitors were threatening to run riot and they got their reward on 23 minutes when Charge took advantage of Horsham’s inability to clear a corner and netted from close range.

In a rare home attack, Paul Nicholls in the visiting goal did well to block a Pat Harding effort, but Billericay went 2-0 up on 36 minutes.

Pelling slipped when attempting to clear a back pass from Ben Andrews and Charge was on hand to knock the ball into an empty net from the edge of the area.

The hosts enjoyed more possession after the break, but saw Claude Seania twice foiled by Nicholls, while Harding’s effort hit the side netting.

Wareham might have grabbed a Billericay third in the latter stages after a great run, but the 2-0 result was a great boost for the visitors and puts them in good heart for tomorrow’s derby at Canvey.
