CROWSTONE Prep School’s year six boys triumphed at this year’s ISA Schools Regional Championships, finishing as overall leaders of the contest.
The team won a large variety of medals in the East Anglia finals, with 11-year-old Yinka Sodipo retaining the gold in 150m and claiming the silver in the 80m sprint.
Yinka was also a part of the school’s boys’ relay team who won gold, adding the medals to their already hefty total. The Westcliff-based school have a good reputation in the championships, with Yinka winning the gold in the 150m and 75m sprint, and the girls’ relay winning the silver in last year’s competition.
Yinka also competed in the ISA National finals in Bedford, but was caught by a stray shoe spike during a race, which forced him out of his upcoming races.
“He was in second place in a race when a loose spike flew up and hit him in the eye,” said Crowstone PE teacher, Glenn Pennyfather.
Pennyfather, who made 238 appearances for Southend United between 1981-1987, was very disappointed for the youngster, who won a gold and a silver at last year’s championships, and was forced out of the relay due to the injury.
“It was just one of those things, it was really unfortunate,” added Pennyfather.
