CHRIS Barker is keen to extend Southend United’s run of clean sheets after joining the club on a permanent basis.
Barker, who had been on loan at Blues from Plymouth Argyle, has now put pen to paper on a two year deal to stay at Roots Hall.
And he hopes to celebrate by securing a third successive clean sheet when Southend host Torquay United this weekend.
“We’ve got two clean sheets in a row now and we want to keep that going now,” said Barker.
“Torquay are flying and have had a really good start to the season.
“But hopefully we can keep things tight at the back again and create chances ourselves going forward.”
Barker started the season at left-back for Blues before switching to a central role at the heart of the defence.
He has featured there in Southend’s last three matches but the 30-year-old does not mind where he is selected.
“I don’t mind where I play, I just want to be in the team,” said Barker. “Overall in my career I’ve probably played about 100 games at centre-back. I did it with Paul Sturrock at Plymouth a couple of years ago and I’m enjoying doing it again.”
