Attack set to change?

BLUES boss Paul Sturrock could alter his strike-force for tomorrow’s game with Torquay United.

Barry Corr has partnered Sturrock’s son Blair in Southend’s last three matches. But the Scotsman may decide to change things against the Gulls.

“The strikers have suffered the most out of all the players because of all the work they’ve had to put in during the last few games we’ve had,” said Sturrock.

“I think they look the weariest of the squad, so I will monitor that and see if I need to freshen it up.”

Matt Paterson, who scored twice against Bristol City in the Carling Cup last month, could enter Sturrock’s thoughts, along with Scott Spencer.

The striker trained with the rest of the squad yesterday after recovering from the back spasms which forced him to miss the matches against both Bradford City and Gillingham.

Right-back Sean Clohessy will return to the team after serving a one-match suspension against the Gills, with Josh Simpson pushing further forward on to the right flank in place of Adam Bouzid who featured there on Tuesday.

“We tried Adam out wide but he’s really a central midfielder and maybe it was a bit unfair playing him there,” said Sturrock.

“He played in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Wednesday though and that did a few of the players good with their fitness.”

Sturrock is also expected to bring Glenn Morris back in goal against Torquay.

Southend United (from): Morris, Clohessy, Mohsni, Barker, Gilbert, Simpson, Grant, Easton, Hall, Corr, Sturrock, Paterson, Spencer, Coughlan, Zaaboub, Bouzid, Prosser, Soares & Evans.
