PAUL Sturrock has upped his side’s workload in a bid to find a way through Torquay United’s watertight defence tomorrow.

The Gulls have conceded just one goal in their last 16 and a half hours of league football.

And Sturrock hopes a tougher training schedule will bring the best back out of Blues after a disappointing midweek display against Gillingham.

“We trained the players harder yesterday and hopefully we will be back to the level of performance we had against Bradford when we play in what will be a hard game tomorrow,” said Sturrock, 53.

“I wasn’t happy with the way we played against Gillingham in the Johnstone’s Paint on Tuesday, but I’ve studied that performance now.

“If you think about it, we played at Wolves on the Tuesday, did little on the Wednesday, trained lightly on Thursday because of the distance we were travelling and then Friday we played at Bradford before travelling back.

“We then didn’t have them in Saturday or Sunday, before training lightly Monday to play on Tuesday, so thinking about it that way, I don’t think we did enough.

“There were four or five days where very little was done, so we can give the players the benefit of the doubt for that performance and hope to see an improvement tomorrow.”
