SOUTHEND United are battling to get their game with Rotherham United on at Roots Hall tomorrow night.
Some of the snow was cleared off the pitch yesterday by the club’s ground staff and supporters.
And media manager David Scriven confirmed Blues would do all they can to avoid the match being called off.
“We’re hopeful we can get Friday’s game on but a lot will depend on what happens with the weather between now and then,” said Scriven.
“Our ground staff have been working the early part of this week to clear the car park and supporters areas of snow and ice and make them safe. Quite often you get a situation where the pitch is playable, but it isn’t safe for spectators to attend – so it is important we get that sorted too.”
Blues covered the pitch last Friday in advance of the cold weather before opting to clear the snow from the playing area.
“The snow was helping to insulate the pitch but it then turned to ice so we decided to remove it,” said Scriven. “Everything is being done within our power to ensure the match goes ahead, but at the moment it is too early to say either way if that will be the case.
“We will, of course, keep supporters updated about the situation.”
