BLUES striker Liam Dickinson wants to again show Rotherham United what they missed out on when the two teams clash at Roots Hall tonight.
Dickinson came close to joining the Millers before signing for Southend last July.
And, having impressed against the Yorkshire side once already this season, he is now eager to do the same this evening.
“I felt like a had a point to prove when we played Rotherham before and it’s the same for tonight’s game as well,” said Dickinson,26.
“I trained with them before coming to Southend but their manager, Andy Scott, said he had to get a couple out before he would be able to sign me and had to call off the deal.
“But after the last time we played them and won 4-0 he congratulated me for what he called a storming performance and said he wished he had signed me after all.
“It would be nice if he thinks the same after this game too because it’s important we get a victory.”
Blues have dropped to the third in the League Two standings after last weekend’s 2-2 draw at Plymouth Argyle, but that does not concern Dickinson.
He remains confident of Southend achieving promotion and is convinced the team will soon be back to their best.
“We’ve had a little dip in form and could be fifth in the league if the other teams win their games in hand but people forget we went 17 matches unbeaten earlier on in the season,” said Dickinson, who has bagged 11 goals for Blues so far this season.
“We haven’t suddenly just become a bad team and there’s no reason why we can’t go on another good run because we definitely have the talent in our squad to do that.”
