LIAM Dickinson was pleased to turn jeers in to cheers by firing Southend United back to winning ways at Gillingham last night.
Dickinson scored Blues’ first goal in their 2-1 triumph at the Priestfield Stadium.
But that came just three days after the striker had been barracked by the club’s fans during a 2-0 defeat to Rotherham United at Roots Hall.
“I was frustrated myself by my performances against Rotherham and also Swindon,” said Dickinson, who has now hit the back of the net 12 times this season.
“The fans weren’t happy with me and rightly so.
“I know I had to do better and in the first half at Gillingham I thought I did.
“I worked hard, closed defenders down and also their goalkeeper.
“The whole team also worked hard though and it was a big relief to get back to winning ways because it hadn’t been a good spell for us.”
Southend went in to the game against the Gills having taken just one point from the previous 12 on offer.
However, Dickinson now hopes Blues can go on another good run of form in their bid to win promotion.
“Hopefully this can be a turning point for us now,” said the 26-year-old forward.
“We may have played more games than our rivals but we need to keep the pressure on them and the best way of us doing that is to keep on winning matches.”

They did not have a player on the pitch who semed able to stop and think about who to pass to. Just lump it aimlessly forward and hope for the best. No craft, no guile, no skill, no patience. If this is what it takes to get out of League 2 it will lead to a quick return. How lucky I was to watch the Blues under Ernie Shepherd, Arthur Rowley, Dave Smith, David Webb and yes, Steve Tilson!
