KANE Ferdinand is keen to keep on impressing for Southend United.
The midfielder made an impressive return to action for Blues in Monday night’s 2-1 win at Gillingham.
And he is now firmly focused on maintaining his form.
“It went well for me at Gillingham but now it’s up to me to keep that up,” said Ferdinand, 19. “It was frustrating for me being out of the side but I’m not the only one it’s happened to.
“The manager made some signings in January and nobody left so we have quite a big squad and there’s real competition for places.
“It was good that I got another chance in the side and played at Gillingham but now my aim is to stay in the side and keep on doing well.”
Prior to his recall at the Priestfield Stadium, Ferdinand had started just one of Southend’s previous eight games.
But he was also certain of soon being able to reproduce his top form.
“My confidence was never knocked by not playing,” said Ferdinand.
“Maybe it might have done for some players but that’s never been a problem for me.
“I knew another chance would come my way and I’m pleased with how it went.”
Ferdinand was chosen as man of the match by Sky Sports, who screened the game live.
However, the television cameras also robbed the midfielder of Southend’s second goal as it was eventually given to Gillingham defender Joe Martin.
“If isn’t wasn’t on TV I might have been given the goal but just making sure we won again was the most important thing,” added Ferdinand.
