Billericay kick-off in their fifth from last game of the season this afternoon knowing that if they win their next three they will be crowned champions.

The finishing line is tantalisingly in sight but, with Easter Monday’s powder-keg showdown with second-placed Hornchurch looming, and a mouth-watering season finale with third-placed Lowestoft, Town will be desperate to make today’s clash with mid-table Carshalton as easy as it looks on paper.

That said, the Robins come into the match on the back of a draw at a much-fancied Hendon side, a home win over a relegation-battling Hastings outfit, and a midweek victory which put a huge dent in Met Police’s play-off hopes.

But they are comfortably clear of relegation danger and have no chance of making the play-offs so should fold in the face of a title-chasing Town side in imperious form with nine wins and three draws from their last 12 games.

Craig Edwards’ team have cruised to victory in three tricky looking away fixtures in recent weeks and topped up their already sky-high confidence with a late-winner at home to an in-form Lewes too.

The only other game in the premier division today sees second-placed Hornchurch go to third-from-bottom Tooting & Mitcham.

The Urchins must win to keep the pressure on, but Town have earned the right to know that a win today will strengthen their already vice-tight grip on their title destiny.

Billericay have a full squad of 20 to choose from for today’s game. Left-back James Hawes is available again after a groin injury, but he may struggle to displace deputy Nathan Green following his impressive display in last weekend’s win at Kingstonian.
