RICHARD Morrissey has teamed up with Olympic champion Christine Ohurugu and upcoming Great Britain international Christine Ohurugu to improve his own 400m form.

The 21-year-old former Southend High School pupil has joined Chris Zah’s coaching group for a five week training camp in California.

And the Rochford born athlete is relishing training alongside such established athletes.

“Richard has been loving his time in Irvine,” said mum Angela.

“He knows it is a great opportunity to train and race in perfect conditions, something which was denied to all the athletes competing in the UK for much of last summer,” she added.

Morrissey has also started his season Stateside, finishing third in 47.64 seconds which was just outside his personal best.

The time put him third in the under 23 Great Britain rankings for the season before he then set a new personal best time of 21.75 seconds in the 200m at Claremont.

Morrissey will now be looking to build on his impressive start and, as he is currently unfunded, he is keen to attract sponsorship to help him.
