YOUNGSTERS from around Essex battled it out at Billericay Cricket Club to reach the regional final of the Asda Kwik Cricket competition.

Winning schools from each of the 14 council districts in Essex plus the Essex metropolitan boroughs took part in thecounty finals.

The winning girls’ team on Monday was Engayne School from Upminster, with Saffron Walden’s RA Butler finishing the runners-up.

Tuesday’s two mixed competitions saw Engayne and Hartley School from Newham win though to the eastern region finals at Mildenhall next month.

Members of Essex’s table-topping women’s team helped officiate on Monday, with Essex first teamer Charl Willoughby dropping into talk to young players and sign autographs on Tuesday.
