It was only an extra 11 words but it helps clear up the muddy waters the Echo likes to project about Bilel. People do change and I admire Bilel's spirit and determination to be the best player at Roots Hall.

If a club comes in for him, I will be gutted... but also pleased that he can play at a higher level."

SOUTHEND United continue to insist Bilel Mohsni has a future at the football club.

The Frenchman has missed the start of Blues’ pre season training and has been linked to a switch to Championship newcomers Sheffield Wednesday.

But a club spokesman insisted Mohsni was soon due back in Southend in preparation for the start of the new season.

“Bilel has been allowed to come back in a bit later because of a family wedding in France,” said the spokesman.

“That’s why he hasn’t been in for training so far but he’s due back soon and I certainly don’t see any reason why he will not be available for selection during the forthcoming season.”

Mohsni has spent two seasons with Blues, making 71 appearances.

During that time his commitment has made him a firm fans’ favourite.

But his spell has also been shrouded in controversy following a series of bust ups both on and off the pitch.

The Frenchman had a year option on his contract activated at the end of last season, but that did not stop Sheffield Wednesday tracking his progress.

However, the club spokesman was adamant there had been no official bids made for Mohsni.

“We’re aware of the rumours linking Bilel with Sheffield Wednesday but we have not seen any bids in black and white for him,” said the spokesman.

“We fully expect him to be back here soon and joining in with the pre-season training all the players are going through at the moment.”

Mohsni, 24 has played in defence, midfield and attack since coming to Blues but he was not available for comment.
