THREE of our Essex Senior League sides progressed in the FA Cup on Saturday, and two were knocked out.

Southend Manor won the derby with Hullbridge Sports in front of a crowd of 84 at Southchurch Park.

Chris Baddeley scored his first-ever FA Cup goal in the 19th minute to settle the extra preliminary round tie.

"We are very happy to have won, even though we did not play our best," he said.

In the next round Manor will face the winner of Tuesday night's replay between Kirkley & Pakefield and Sawbridgeworth Town.

And Basildon United continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 1-0 win at home to Diss Town.

David Reynolds scored a 38th minute winner in front of crowd of 51 at Gardiners Close to secure the Bees' third win on the bounce.

"It was great day, we have three wins from three now, and there is a wonderful atmosphere around the whole club at the moment," said Basildon secretary Richard Mann.

The Bees will face the winner of Tuesday night's replay between Wivenhoe Town and Haverhill Rovers.

Great Wakering are through as well after they battled to a 2-1 win away to Woodbridge Town, despite the sending off of Rovers' Stuart Hepburn for two bookings on his competitive debut for the club.

Player-manager Dan Trenkel put Rovers ahead when he found himself unmarked and finished coolly on 25 minutes.

And they looked to have the tie wrapped up when Ashley Hawkins scored directly from a free-kick to put them 2-0 up six minutes from time.

But then Hepburn was sent off, and the Woodpeckers pulled one back through Kelsey Trotter in the last minute to set-up a nervy finish.

But Rovers held on to set up an away tie in the next round with Wroxham - the team who replaced Rovers in this season's Ryman One North following their relegation to the Essex Senior League.

But Bowers & Pitsea fell at the first hurdle of this year's competition following a lacklustre 3-1 home defeat to Eton Manor.

Billy Sendall scored unmarked from a corner on 20 minutes to put Manor in front, but Bowers were soon level as Peter Warner controlled a long ball before slotting past Sam Turner to make it 1-1 at the break.

Bowers started the second-half well but found themselves behind again in the 56th minute when Andrew Thomas fired home.

And the tie was settled 10 minutes from time when a defensive mix up allowed Aaron Cox to strike the ball into an empty net.
