Southend United manager Paul Sturrock: We didn't deserve defeat to Accrington Stanley

Blues boss Paul Sturrock - felt his side were unlucky to lose
SOUTHEND United manager Paul Sturrock felt his side did not deserve to start their League Two season with a 1-0 defeat to Accrington Stanley on Saturday.
Karl Sheppard’s second half header earned Accrington their first ever victory at Roots Hall .
But Sturrock felt Blues should have picked up at least a point.
“If you look at the number of chances we created and how many crosses we put in to the box then we shouldn’t have lost,” said Sturrock.
“Football can be a cruel game and we saw that here.
“Accrington scored with the only opportunity they created and full credit to them.
“It meant we ended up chasing the game and I’m just gutted that we lost.
“At the same time though there were some positives out there for us and on another day we would definitely have won.
“But we’re all a bit down now and we need a win to get some confidence back in to the players.”
Blues were unable to find a way past Accrington goalkeeper Ian Dunbavin who was in fine form between the sticks.
The former Shrewsbury Town shot-stopper did well to deny Ryan Hall, Mark Phillips and the fit again Michael Timlin.
However, Britt Asssombalonga, who made his debut in attack after signing on loan from Watford just before the game, is confident Southend will bounce back from their disappointing start.
“We were all frustrated to lose but I’m sure we can bounce back from this,” said Assombalonga. 19.
“There are some good players in the team and hopefully I can play a part in us all doing well too.
“Playing here is the best thing for me to do at this moment in time and I’m enjoying my first taste of league football.”

I said last season I thought he had gone as far as he could go at Roots Hall, and looking at this seasons squad, the proof of the saying was for all to see so far...correct,
But ENJOY the Blues, anything can happen, but don't get carried away, "mid table it will be again this season.Place your bets on it ! Cheers.
