JOHN Spicer is thrilled to have finally completed a free transfer switch to Southend United.

The 28-year-old midfielder spent a month on trial with Blues.

But he has now signed a year long deal and made his debut as second half substitute in the Accrington Stanley loss.

“It has been a long month but now I have finally put pen to paper so I am pleased,” said Spicer.

“I always wanted to sign here from the first day I turned up so I am glad it is all done and dusted now.

“I always believed I would get a contract but you never know financially how things might go.

“It was good to be involved at the weekend too and I’m sure we will soon bounce back from the defeat.”
