Just a few years ago, Craig Jackson went to hospital to say goodbye to his brother Robin Womack – now he has watched him win a bronze medal at the Paralympic Games

CRAIG Jackson insisted he could not have been any prouder after seeing his brother Robin Womack win a bronze medal in front of 80,000 fans at the Olympic Stadium in Stratford.

Jackson was sat with a large group of Robin’s family and friends just behind the shot-put competition.

And he admitted tears were shed in celebration after Robin’s fine performance.

“It was only a few years ago that we all went to the hospital in London to see Robin before the operation he had on his back and were told that we could be saying goodbye to him,” said Craig, who lives in Benfleet .

“We were sat with him not really knowing if we were going to ever see him again so to go from that to see him winning a bronze medal at the Paralympics in the space of eight or nine years is just absolutely amazing.

“We probably don’t tell him enough, because we don’t want it to go to his head, but we are all so very proud of him.

“I’m not sure many of us could believe our eyes when it came up with 11.34m on the scoreboard but the whole day was just amazing and something none of us will ever forget.”

Also sitting in the stands was Robin’s wife Debbie and his three children Jessica, Thomas and Chloe.

And it did not take them long to realise the impact Robin’s performance had had.

“He came out to see us at the end and all of a sudden loads of people were wanting his autograph,” said Craig.

“He hasn’t had that before and his autograph is more like an essay so I think he’s definitely going to have to change it now!”
