Westcliff and Thurrock go head-to-head

BEN McKeith wants Westcliff to make it two wins from two when they host newly promoted Thurrock tomorrow.

Westcliff kicked off the new season with a convincing 55-19 win over Tring last Saturday.

And McKeith is now keen to build on that success by beating Thurrock, but the fly half knows it will not be an easy task.

“Thurrock are expected to do well this season and I was surprised to see them lose to Gravesend last weekend,” said McKeith, who bagged 25 points against Tring. “Sometimes it can take time to adjust to a new division and we learnt that last season when we came up in to this league.

“I’m sure Thurrock will be fine though because they have some good players but we will be wanting to beat them on Saturday and build on what was a good opening day win against Tring.

“We had a good end to last season and now want to carry that on from the start this time.

“We’ve got Old Elthamians the week after as well who are another newly promoted team so we hopefully we can get a run of good results going.”

Thurrock lost 23-21 to Gravesend in their first fixture, but were without the influential Mike Stanley.

However the centre, who Westcliff’s director of rugby Bob Smith feels is good enough to play in the Premiership, hopes to be able to return from injury for tomorrow’s clash.
