Basildon Rugby Club beaten in Essex derby by Brentwood

BASILDON  sunk to their second defeat in succession, losing 20-6 at home to Brentwood.

But there were signs of promise from the newly promoted side, according to the club's press officer Derek Lockett.

“We can certainly take positives from this encounter,” said Lockett.

“It was a disjointed match and in the end it was Brentwood's finishing and stout defence which was the difference.”

Basildon began the game brightly and took the lead early on with a penalty from Brad Johnson.

He then landed another successful kick to make it 6-0 and the home-side came desperately close to scoring a try on more than one occasion.

However, Brentwood looked a different side after the break and went in front with a try but Basildon hit back and thought they had gone back in front with a try of their own from successful a line-out but they were adjudged not to have crossed the line.

That boosted Brentwood and they ran in a trio of late tries to make the final score-line unfairly flattering for the visitors.

Basildon: Randal, Johnson, Rowle, Dieu de la Bellefontaine, B White, Meadows, J White, Partridge, Pehlevan, Stevens, Creasey, Harman, Green, Crowhurst, Chandler.

Replacements: Cairns, Stuckey & Howard
