LEE Wieczorek is ready for the biggest test of his career at London’s Wembley Arena on Saturday night.

The Billericay tough guy will face UFC veteran Curt Warburton in a lightweight bout at the televised BAMMA 10 event.

And the 28-year-old goes into the fight knowing a win could secure him a coveted place at the UFC.

“I think Lee is the best pound-for-pound lightweight in the country,” said TSG head instructor Dan Burzotta.

“He is pure force, so powerful, and he trains incredibly hard.

“And he knows what he wants – he wants to get to the UFC, and not only get there, but stay there and be a success.”

Renowned Wolfslair fighter Warburton has clocked up notable wins on his 10-3-0 record, most famously against current UK TUF coach, Ross Pearson.

Wieczorek comes into the bout with 11 wins out of 14 fights, and the UWC title to his name. Burzotta said: “Warburton will be one of the toughest tests of Lee’s career, no doubt.

“I’d expect Lee to take his time here because he has the fitness to start strong and end strong.

“I’ve said to Lee this fight will be a journey for him, and it will be one where he has to dig deep. “But he knows what a win could mean, and I’d say if he wins he could get a UFC contract.

“We’ve spoken to the UFC and they know all about Lee.”

Wieczorek is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in the sport and is one of the many stars produced by the Team Sure Grip gym.

It also boasts Stav “Crazy Bear” Economou, a man Burzotta regards as the best heavyweight in the country.

And a measure of TSG’s growing reputation is the fact reigning UCMMA heavyweight champion Darren Towler drives from his home in Newcastle five days a week to train at their base in London Road, Westcliff .

“Since Darren has been training with us he’s won three titles and has won six fights in a row,” said Burzotta, who trained under the famous Brazilian Gracie family and describes his own coaching style as “old school”.

“We have some great heavyweights here and we get fighters ready to hold their own against the best opposition in the world.

“And over the past few weeks we’ve also had (UCMMA light heavyweight champion) Linton Vassell coming down from Milton Keynes to train with us. So it’s a great place to train at the moment.”
