Southend United's Sean Clohessy ends 21 month goal drought in Cheltenham Town victory

Sean Clohessy celebrates his goal at Cheltenham Town
SEAN Clohessy ended a 21-month-long goal drought to help Southend United win 3-1 at Cheltenham Town on Saturday.
The right-back had gone 83 games without a goal before netting a first-half equaliser at Whaddon Road.
And, after Britt Assombalonga and Mark Phillips also worked their way on to the score-sheet, Clohessy was full of smiles at the final whistle.
“It was a good game, a really good result and I scored a goal too so I’m very happy,” said Clohessy.
“I feel like I should score more goals than I do because I’m quite often up joining in with attacks.
“But this time it just broke to me and it was great to see it go in.
“Funnily enough Gavin Tomlin and I had been working on a move which saw me cut in from the right just like that in training and that hard work paid off.”
Clohessy’s previous only ever goal for Blues came at Oxford United on New Year’s Day 2011.
But his latest strike enabled Paul Sturrock’s side to go on and record a fourth successive victory.
And Clohessy feels things are now coming together for Southend.
“The results our going our way and we’re also getting that bit of luck you need as well,” said the 25-year-old defender.
“We still have players like Neil Harris and Freddy Eastwood to come back in so too so it’s looking good and I think we should definitely be up there again this season.”
