Basildon Rugby Club show promise
11:56am Wednesday 19th September 2012 in Sport By Chris Phillips
BASILDON are still looking for their first league points in London One North, but again showed signs of promise in a 38-21 defeat at Eton Manor.
The teams were evenly matched for the first 20 minutes but then Manor took the lead with a converted try.
Basildon struck straight back with a try from second row Jim Harman which was converted by winger Brad Johnson.
But two more Eton Manor converted tries saw them comfortably ahead 21-7 at half time.
However, two minutes in to the second period Ben White scored a try converted by Johnson and Basildon were back in it at 21-14.
The home side immediately extended their advantage with a penalty and a converted try to seemingly put Basildon out of the race.
But they came back with a try by centre Daniel Dieu de la Bellefontaine, which was converted by Johnson.
Basildon were still in the match but a try for Manor then sealed the deal to send the Essex side to the bottom of the table.
Basildon: Rowle, Harman, Dieu de la Bellefontaine, White, Johnson, Meadows, White, Stuckey, Baker, Partridge, Creasey, Harman, Caines, Green, Crowhurst.
