SOUTHEND United’s Freddy Eastwood wants to fire himself up to fifth in the club’s all-time list of goalscorers before the end of the season.

Eastwood, who bagged a late winner against Exeter City last weekend, is currently just eight goals away from joining the quintet.

And he hopes to narrow the gap by again hitting the back of the net at Plymouth Argyle this weekend.

“I like to know about these goalscoring statistics and will certainly be aiming to be in the top five when the season ends,” said Eastwood, 28.

“I certainly think I can do it and it would be great if I could get closer to them by scoring again at the weekend.

“I’m starting to feel sharp and came through a midweek match in training without any problems at all.

“I’m now looking forward to the Plymouth game and hopefully being able to play a part in us getting another good result.”

Eastwood missed the start of the league season after suffering a calf injury during training.

But he came back with a bang as a second half substitute during last weekend’s 2-1 triumph over Exeter.

And he is now starting to enjoy his football once more.

“The biggest thing for me is to be happy when I’m playing and that’s happening again at the moment,” said Eastwood.

“That hasn’t happened for a few years now and I’m enjoying being back at Southend.

“I’m sure that will put me in good stead and people will notice a difference in the next few weeks.

"But first I will have to try to get in to the team because there’s real competition for the striking positions in the team at the moment.”

Eastwood and the fit again Barry Corr are now both back in contention, while Britt Assombalonga and Elliot Benyon are also available.

However, Neil Harris will miss the game at Plymouth with a knee injury and Gavin Tomlin will face a late check on a groin problem.
