I’ve got taste for Southend United again, says David Martin

DAVID Martin is loving being back in Southend United’s first team.

But the winger is still unsure where his future lies.

The 27-year-old was made available for transfer at the start of the season before working his way back in to favour.

Subsequently, the former Millwall man has now started Blues’ last four matches but is still not sure if he will be remaining at Roots Hall .

“To be honest I’m not really too sure what the situation is and if I'm on the transfer list or not,” said Martin.

“I haven't spoken to the manager about it but it’s been good to get games again lately having been previously been frozen out.

“I just look to do as well as I can in every game I get but it would be nice to get 90 minutes under my belt.

“That’s down to the manager though and I’ll just have to try and take the chances that come my way.”

Martin’s next possible opportunity to impress will come tomorrow at Plymouth Argyle when Blues will be bidding for their sixth win in seven games.

And Martin feels Paul Sturrock’s side should be pushing for all three points if they are to continue their charge for promotion.

“If we are serious about going up this year then we need to be winning these type of games,” said Martin.

“We’ve been doing well recently and want to keep it going.”

Martin is also keen to play a part in that aim and would love to again find the back of the net at Home Park.

The winger scored in Blues’ 2-2 draw there last season and is desperate to open his account for the current campaign.

“It would be great to get a goal but I'm not sure if I’m going to be playing,” said Martin.

“Hopefully I am and I can do well to improve my confidence.

“It’s still not as high as it should be at the moment and like most wingers I’m a confidence player so it is something I need to work on.

“But it’s only going to come back by me playing well so hopefully that can be tomorrow.”
