SOUTHEND United have announced the appointment of Steve Kavanagh as their new chief executive.
Kavanagh is a chartered accountant and started his football career as finance director at Charlton Athletic before becoming chief executive.
And he is pleased to be replacing Gary Lockett at Roots Hall. “I am delighted to be joining Southend United and looking forward to being part of what is a really exciting period for the club as the new stadium development grows ever closer,” said Kavanagh.
“I have worked in football for more than ten years and fully understand the 24/7 culture that is required to deliver success both on and off the field.”

Hope he succeeds but in the words of the well known bookie's advert "Here's the latest live odds coming up on your screen, how long will Mr Kavanagh last at Roots Hall? Bet in play.
Its not another new chief executive we need its a new Chairman and board to take the club forward and build Fossetts farm, not promises several times what Ron Martin can't and hasn't achieved.
