Westcliff Rugby Club aim for second win in a row

WESTCLIFF will be looking to build on last weekend’s victory over Westcombe Park when they host Staines in National Three London & SE tomorrow.

Westcliff returned to winning ways with a 36-30 triumph in Kent.

And, as they look for more of the same against Staines, they have no new injury concerns.

Westcliff could also be boosted by the return of Gus Martyn and Jim Smith but both players will be put through late fitness tests.

Either way, Westcliff are likely to name a similar squad to the one that succeeded against Westcombe Park and first team manager Rick Compton insists the team will taken nothing for granted against Staines, even though their opponents are second from bottom in the standings.

"Staines may not have recorded a victory so far this season but we a tough encounter is still expected,” said Compton.

“They had a rest last week when their game was cancelled due to traffic congestion on the M25 and they will come with determination and purpose desperate to get their season back on track.

“We will be looking to build on last weekend’s good result and it should make for an entertaining game.”

The match will also see Westcliff’s squad wearing pink and gold socks in support of the Eve Appeal campaign, a gynaecological cancer fund which supports a world class research programme at the department of women's cancer at University College London IS.

A meal before the game, which was also raise money for the charity, will be attended by more than 150 people.
