Southend United's Freddy Eastwood: Draw with Barnet is no good to us

FREDDY Eastwood insisted Southend United were disappointed to be held to a 2-2 draw by struggling Barnet on Saturday.

Eastwood helped Blues fight back to earn a point by blasting home a penalty.

But he revealed Paul Sturrock’s side were desperate to win the game.

“I think it was disappointing not to get three points given where Barnet are in the league,” said Eastwood.

“We want to be up there this season trying to win the league and we’re not going to do that by failing to win these kind of matches.

“A draw is no good for us really and, even though we came back from 2-0 down, we aren’t very pleased.

“And we were probably lucky to get even get a point as they missed a sitter right at the very end.”

However, Eastwood had no such problems in front of goal.

The striker slammed a second-half penalty past Barnet goalkeeper Graham Stack.

And he was able to take the spot-kick after getting to the ball first.

“The ball came to me otherwise I wouldn’t have taken the penalty,” said Eastwood. “Kevan Hurst threw me the ball so I was lucky as whoever got it first would have taken it, and it was great it went in.

“But I’d have rather us won the game and the only good thing is that we have another game tomorrow to put things right and get on a run.”
