Take that — Ryan Frost (left) lands a right on Chalvedon’s Marc Rice during their Essex & Eastern Counties title fight
CHALVEDON ABC’s Marc Rice lost to Harwich’s Ryan Frost in the final of a welterweight contest at the Harlow Greyhound Stadium.
It went three keenly-contested rounds before Frost was given the verdict on a majority points decision.
Southpaw Frost covered a lot of ground in the opening two rounds as he avoided Rice’s shots and capitalised with his own fierce combinations.
The compact Rice changed tactics in the third as he closed Frost down and backed him to the ropes in an exciting closing round.
Chalvedon club secretary and the official in charge at the show, Dave Tipler, said: “Marc gave a very good account of himself but lost on a narrow decision.”
With the win, Frost secured the Essex & Eastern Counties Senior Novice Welterweight title, and now moves forward to a national quarter-final in mid-November against an opponent yet to be named.
But there was a victory for Chalvedon’s Ben Redman in a senior novices final as he beat Brentwood’s Tony Martin follow-ing a third-round retirement.
And in the National Association of Boys’ Clubs Anglian finals, there was a points win for Billericay’s Callum Smith against Chalvedon’s Max Hinson in an under-48kg contest.
Chalvedon’s Nick Tipler stopped Chadwell’s Shea Nightingill in the third round of their under-52kg bout.
And Chalvedon’s James Burman beat Kingfisher’s Curtis Williams on points in their under-54kg fight.
Chalvedon’s Jakob Miller lost to Berry’s R Ogunwobi after suffering a head injury in the second round of their under-60kg contest, and Five Star’s Jack Kelleher’s beat Chalvedon’s Jack Lipton on points in their under-63kg bout.
