MOST of the carp anglers enjoyed some very successful sport at Doggetts in Rochford this week albeit most of the fish landed were very scrappy mid doubles.
There were a few anglers that landed bigger fish such as local fishing friends Ben Coppen and Chris Smith who chose to fish the long arm during a very warm spell.
Coppen banked a 14lb common, a 21lb mirror plus a further 10 tench to boost the final tally.
Smith obviously chose the best side of the swim as his bag consisted of 35 tench, commons of 13 and 19lbs then two very hard fighting mirrors of 13 and 19lbs.
Landing his first ever carp, local Angler Mike Blaylock opened his account in style when fishing a difficult swim on the east bank.
Not appreciating that Doggetts is rated as quite a hard water, Blaylock landed a 14lb common plus mirrors of 12, 14 and 18lbs.
Paul Bevan is getting a reputation as being the man who always lands his fish by wading into the lake to free his fish from the reeds.
Bevan was fishing the south bank this week where he landed a lower double common which fought like a 20, a mirror of 17lbs plus a pike of 6lbs.
Southend angler Terry Edwards capitalised on the abundance of doubles showing this week when he fished a session on the short arm.
Edwards landed a 15 common plus mirrors of 15 and 17lbs.
Russ Alden returned to Doggetts this week having spent the last few years getting married plus trying his hand at sea fishing.
Alden had very little choice of swims and settled on the north bank where he was convinced he was about to have a very quiet night.
Much to his delight, Alden landed an abundance of tench plus three mid double carp.
Dave Leiper and son Craig set up on the South bank where Dave's bag consisted of four mirrors weighing in at a total of 59lbs.
Son Craig had a 16lb mirror plus a surprise 20lb pike.
Local anglers Poacher Chris Smith and Jay Martin saw this continual action on the well known south bank swim and promptly blanked during a 24 hour stint.
Lewis Clark spent a few hours on the east bank one evening testing a new bait and was very pleased with the result when he landed two lower 20 mirrors both taken from the margins.
The float fishermen are still enjoying reasonable sport despite the very hot conditions although the bulk of the tench are certainly being landed during night sessions.
Sam Meacham enjoyed a couple of sessions within the last week.
Not only did Meacham land his first Doggetts carp but both sessions produced mixed bags in excess of 70 lbs to the tip.
