Newman's not up the creek with Half Paddle

NORTHLANDS Park regular Alan Newman banked one of his target fish when he landed the much sought after Northlands Park common carp known as Half Paddle.

The big fish scaled 28lb 8oz, giving Newman a new personal best from the water.

Newman's session at the northern end of the venue's café lake had started in style the previous day when he landed smaller commons of 10lb and 15lb 8oz.

He lost a fish during the night, but redeemed himself at approximately eight o'clock the following morning when the 28 pounder picked up his Nash shelf life tutti fruitti boilie.

The fish put up a tremendous scrap, making three long and dogged runs to the reed bed on the Western side of the lake.

Fortunately each time Newman managed to keep it clear of the reed stems. And, after a fourth shorter run, he was able to lead it over the net.

Carp fishing newcomer Peter Barclay doubled the size of his previous personal best when he landed a 20lb 8oz common carp from the Northlands Park road lake.

After an introductory four-day session as a guest on a Kent Syndicate water Barclay had only a 10lb mirror carp to his credit.

This was to change rapidly when he hooked the 20lb 8oz carp on his ever cast at Northlands Park lake!

The big fish fell to a homemade boilie prepared by his 13-year-old brother Richard.

The Northlands Park bream are becoming more active with several 50 and 60 pound plus catches landed.

One of the best bags fell to Chris Smith who netted 26 bream and skimmers for a 71lb 8oz catch.

The big haul came from the road lake where Smith fished a quivertip and luncheon meat baits.
