Carp fall for Silvey’s bait

A switch to luncheon meat paid dividends for Southend angler Chris Silvey on the Gloucester Park cockle bank.

Fishing tight to the island, Silvey had a quiet morning until he changed baits and almost immediately landed a 7lb 2oz common carp.

He also took a common of 7lb 6oz and 4lb mirror, but the prize was a cracking common of 16lb 4oz which made several good runs before coming to the net.

All the fish were taken on boosted luncheon meat cubes, 12" hooklink and a simple running ledger set up.
