Geoff slays cockle bank for 100lbs haul
GEOFF Byatt took a cracking 100lb-plus, 15 carp haul when he fished a match practice session at the Gloucester Park cockle bank.
The big catch came from the centre section of the cockle bank where Byatt fished mini boilies baits up in the water on a heavy waggler rig.
The carp came thick and furious throughout his session, which saw him net individual fish into double figures.
Byatt put his practices session to good use when he fished the same area during Sunday's Ridley Angling Products Gloucester Park sweep match.
On a day when bites were scarce and fish hard to come by he landed four carp for a 34lb 12oz winning haul.
Two of his fish, including a specimen of 13lb 6oz, fell to boilies fished under the waggler whilst ledgered luncheon meat produced the other two. Second place went to Frank Vickers with two bream and a carp totalling 13lb.
Graham Middleton landed a cracking 18lb common carp at Gloucester Park lake, after delaying casting out for two hours because of torrential rain.
Middleton had arrived at the venues incoming sluice and was erecting his bivvy when the rain arrived.
For two hours he sat watching the downpour before it eased enough for him to venture out and set up his rods. Less than an hour later the eighteen pound common was fooled by a Source pop up boilie, and his best fish of the year was on its was on its way to the net.
First-time visitor Pete Callaway finished his day at Gloucester Park with a superb 70lb plus silverfish haul consisting mainly of bream and a few roach to under a pound.
Calloway fished halfway along the cockle bank where he used a pole to present pellet baits at fourteen metres. In addition to the silverfish he also hooked two carp, both of which made short work of his light rig.
