Warm weather gives tench fishing a boost

THE tench fishing at Doggetts improved considerably last week as the temperatures rose.

The Rochford fishery's north bank and the back pool saw anglers enjoying great sport with the right tackle on an assortment of baits.

And carp anglers fishing the north bank also landed reasonable numbers of fish, although a change in the wind direction saw the fish move to most parts of the lake.

Junior Stuart Paton landed mirrors of 16lb and a very splendid 26lb from the long arm, while his fishing chum, Kirt Pottle, landed a scrappy common of 16lb from a night session on the east bank.

Rochford angler Gary Pipe fished a session on the north bank and rediscovered his form by landing five assorted commons and mirrors to 19lb.

At one stage to manage any sleep Pipe had to wind his rods in as he was landing so many tench.

Jamie Mead from Wakering was allowed out for his first night session of the year.

Having done so well on his Eclipse baits on the north bank last week, Mead decided to fish the same tactics in the same swim.

Four double mirrors to 15lb, a small common and more tench than he could count proved that lightning can strike twice.

Rochford anglers Fred Foyle and Alan Slade spent a night on the south bank and just managed two mid double commons, plus tench and bream.

Lee Tucker and Lewis Clark fished on the long arm.

Tucker landed a mirror of 16lb, plus tench, while Clark also had numerous tench, a common of 16lb and a mirror of 21lb.

He also lost four good carp all within an hour of having to leave.
