Williams takes pole position

MITCHELL Williams had the top catch of the week at The Warren when he landed the Square Lake's biggest fish, a 25lb 12oz mirror carp known as the Foreigner.

The 11-year-old also bagged the heaviest koi carp in the Stanford le Hope lake, a specimen of 11lb 12oz.

He rounded things off with two other carp for a total catch weight of 64lb 8oz.

Mitchell's dad, Stuart, also had a successful session, catching seven carp totalling 94lb 8oz. His best fish was one of 19lb 8oz.

And Mark Trunley also landed a 25lb carp and managed a total catch weight of 74lb.

Bradley Burrows, 15, captured a 20lb common and three other carp for a total weight of 56lb.

Josie Milbank beat her personal best by more than 6lb when she took a 17lb common and also caught a F1 hybrid of 7lb, the heaviest reported this year.

In the Match Lake some excellent catches have been reported. John Bradford took 15 tench to 6.5lb, plus one of the lake's rare fantail crucians at 2lb.

Many juniors were getting among the tench and bream, with 14-year-old Mitchell Seaman and 14-year-old Lewis Winthrop having a good day. Seven tench weighing more than 6lb were reported captured along with four bream in excess of 7lb.

Eight anglers had sessions resulting in catches of bream and tench between 50lb and 80lb. Evening catches are doing well,
