NORTHLANDS Park regular Alan Newman landed an amazing 12 carp haul when he fished a 24-hour session at his local Basildon venue.
Six of his fish were double-figure specimens, with the best two scaling 19lb and 20lb.
He also landed 14 tench and lost five carp.
Newman started his session fishing to the left of the wooden platform on the Northlands Park road lake.
He landed numerous tench overnight, but at first light spotted several carp moving in the swim to the right of the platform.
And a quick swim change produced immediate action.
Within minutes of casting out Newman landed a mirror of 15lb and less than 15 minutes later he hooked a cracking common carp of 20lb.
The hectic sport continued with an 8lb common, followed just 10 minutes later by a common of 19lb.
Before he had a chance to unhook the 19-pounder, a 12lb mirror had picked up his other bait.
The rest of the day saw Newman take fish at regular intervals.
A number of them were only seven or eight pounds apiece, although he added further specimens of 10lb and 16lb.
Ryan Harrison only landed one fish during his short trip to Northlands Park, but was more than pleased to land a new personal best 23lb mirror carp.
Harrison had noticed four big fish cruising on the surface.
After stalking them along the margins, he cast out a bread flake bait using his quivertip rod.
At first the fish were wary but eventually patience paid off with the 23-pounder accepting his bait.
After a long battle on Harrison's light gear the big fish, a new personal best by 5lb, came to the net.
>Wickford Angling Centre man Peter Steward has stamped his authority on the Wickford Angling Centre Northlands Park Evening Series, taking his second consecutive win.
He weighed in a tremendous 44lb 4oz 8dr haul to finish 15lb clear of the field. Steward was pegged next to the wooden platform, where he used a pole to present paste and pellet baits at 13 metres.
His first hour was very slow but the second hour of the match saw him netting fish at a tremendous rate.
Steward's catch rate slowed dramatically in the final hour, but he still had 15 bream and a big tench to offer the scalesman.
Second place went to Gordon Blanks, who weighed in two eels and eight bream weighing 29lb 2oz 8dr.
Blanks fished below the cafe in the cafe lake using a quivertip with worm and caster cocktail baits.
Most of his catch, which included bream to more than 4lb, came in the first half of the match.
Mick Watling took third place from the swim next to Blanks' with 26lb 12oz. Watling took his all bream catch on worm baits and quivertip tactics.
Wickford Angling Centre proprietor Ricky Cooke claimed fourth place with nine bream and a handful of roach for 25lb 7oz.
Cooke fished the middle spitway where he used a pole at 13 metres to present pellet baits over a bed of chopped worms and pellet.
Cooke also lost a very big fish which charged through the big reed bed giving him no chance on his light pole gear. Fifth place went to Rick Grover with 23lb 4oz 8dr.
Graham Hyde took sixth place with 21lb 8oz, giving the top six anglers an average of more than 28lb each for the three-hour event.
With one match left to fish, Peter Steward holds an unassailable lead with 56 points.
But competition for the runner up places remains fierce with Greg Day, Frank Thomas. Paul Stanley, Gordon Blanks, and Mick Watling all sharing second place with 28 points each. Steve Barnett is just behind with 27 points.
The final match in the series takes place this evening. The match has its own 100 per cent pools payout.
Each angler's best three results will count towards the overall event, with Wickford Angling Centre providing £150 worth of tackle vouchers split between the overall series winner and runners up.
They are also providing a number of tackle prizes to be awarded after the elimination of the major winners. For more information call Mick Toomer on 01268 282317.
>Carp fishing newcomer Tony Hattersley is in need of a new landing net after smashing his old one landing a 22lb 8oz mirror carp at Billericay's Lake Meadows.
Hattersley, whose previous best carp was 17lb, fished a mainline boilie in the near margins from his houses bank swim.
He did not have too much trouble getting the fish into his relatively small net, but then the fish thrashed, breaking the frame.
Leigh Manser took three decent carp in two evening sessions at the Lake Meadows boathouse hedge.
Using tutti fruitti mini boilies, Manser's first session produced mirrors of 14lb and 18lb.
The following evening he was back in the same swim to add a common of 19lb.
