PETER Taylor handed over the team of the year award to the Southend High School for Girls Intermediate Athletics Squad.
And he soon hopes to be picking up more prizes of his own.
The former England and Southend United manager is now in charge of high-flying Wycombe Wanderers in League Two.
But he took time out from their promotion charge to present the successful athletes with their trophy.
“I think these awards are an excellent idea and I was delighted to be able to come down and present the prize,” said Taylor, a former pupil of the King Edmund School in Rochford.
“This is a very good area for sport and events like this encourage others to get active, and that has to be a good thing.”
Taylor’s Wycombe’s side are currently second in the standings and the 56-year-old is keen to take the club into League One.
“We’re going through a bit of sticky patch right now but we’re confident we can come through that and be celebrating promotion at the end of the season,” he added.
