ENGLAND rugby union legend Jeff Probyn described Arron Williams as an absolute inspiration after presenting him with the Special Achievement award.
Probyn won 37 caps for his country during a fine career and played in the 1991 World Cup final against Australia.
He was also a star member of a successful Wasps side during that period and was honoured to be able to present Williams with his prize at the Sky Bar.
“Arron is a fantastic man and it was a pleasure to present him with his award,” said Probyn.
“The way he has reacted to what happened is amazing and he is a real inspiration to everyone.”
Williams broke his neck while playing rugby for Basildon against South Woodham and will now be paralysed for the rest of his life.
But he remains incredibly positive and Probyn has been a long time admirer of Williams’ character.
“When I first heard about the trust Brian Moore and Paul Needham — my former England team-mates in the back row — got together to make a donation,” said Probyn.
“He has been supported fantastically by Basildon Rugby Club too and they are all a credit to the game.”
