BASILDON snooker professional Stuart Bingham presented the young personality award to new town athlete James Shane and admitted: "I just wish there had been something like this when I was an up-and-coming youngster."
He added: "It's great when you're making your mark in your chosen sport to get recognition such as this.
"I think it's been an outstanding night at a very good venue and the whole presentation building up to each award was very professional."
Bingham is jetting off to Portugal now to try and improve on his already single figure golf handicap and to prepare for the most vital part of his snooker season.
For next month he'll try to win through to the main stages of the World Championship and fly out to Beijing for the China Open.
