ESSEX Pirates star Taner Adu is gunning for team and not individual glory against the high-flying Newcastle Eagles tomorrow night.
Adu has top scored in Pirates’ last four matches and has now passed 400 points for the season.
But he would much rather be celebrating victories for the Southend based side.
“I’m happy to have gone passed 400 points but it doesn’t mean much when you’re not winning,” said Adu.
“I’m more worried about us getting more wins between now and the end of the season than I am about my points and it’s results that matter the most.”
Pirates have triumphed just four times in their opening season in the BBL.
And they will find it hard to turn things around against Eagles at the Southend Leisure and Tennis Centre tomorrow night, tip off 7.30pm.
Eagles are currently second in the standings and have now been further boosted by the signing of Great Britain captain Andrew Sullivan.
“It is going to be a very tough ask against Newcastle Eagles as they are the current champions,” said Adu.
“They are well placed to win it again this year too especially now they have Andrew Sullivan who I am sure will be a major player again for them.
“It will be hard to keep him out of the game but we must give it our best shot and we want to hopefully show how much we have improved since we last played them before Christmas.”
Pirates were thrashed 97-46 that evening and head coach Tim Lewis is keen to avoid a similar score-line this time around.
“I still think that was our worst home performance of the season,” said Lewis.
“We need to do better this time and we gave them a good game at their place in October so hopefully we can do it again.”
