ESSEX Pirates suffered a 117-104 defeat at home to Newcastle Eagles tonight.
Pirates led 34-24 at the end of the first quarter but were behind 56-51 at half-time.
The high flying Eagles were 87-78 ahead at the end of the third quarter before seeing out the final 10 minutes to win 117-104.
New signing Marcus Knight top scored with 19 points for Pirates while Taner Adu added 16 and Alan Metcalfe 15.
