Leopards set to name new coach

THE Essex Leopards have announced that their agreement with Barking Abbey Academy is coming to an end and that means coach Dejan Mihevc will not be staying in charge of the side.

The Echo also understands that Leopards are close to confirming Mihevc’s replace-ment and the appointment could be announced by the end of the week.

The Big Cats, who will again split their home matches between Basildon and Brentwood next season, won an English Basketball Division One league, play-off and National Cup treble last season.

But, as they look to build on that in the 2012/13 campaign before moving up to the British Basketball League in 2013, they will be under new leadership.

And Leopards’ managing director Gareth Roberts was full of praise for Mihevc’s performance.

“I would like to thank Dejan Mihevc and Barking Abbey for their work over the last two years,” said Roberts.

“The partnership between them and Leopards has helped the club experience its most successful season so far.

“However we now feel it is time to part company and concentrate on building our base in Essex as we look forward to next season and beyond.

“We are all very excited about the opportunities this brings and look forward to working closely with the new coach over the coming months as we look to retain our titles.”
